On June 16, 2020, the Nation and the Today, two largest-selling newspapers in Seychelles published an article entitled Solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapons in the war against the pandemic by Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles H.E. Mme GUO Wei, the full text is as follows:

On June 7, 2020, the State Council Information Office of China issued a white paper on the country's battle against COVID-19, entitled "Fighting COVID-19: China in Action".

Consisting of four chapters, this white paper has documented China's arduous efforts in fighting COVID-19 with a people-centered policy and a life-first principle, outlined China's best practice in epidemic prevention, control and treatment, shared the Chinese people's experience and feelings going through the difficult times, and expressed the confidence and strength in solidarity, cooperation and victory against the virus.

China will never forget the invaluable friendship from people around the globe who cheered for China in different ways when China was at the most trying moment of its epidemic response. In the face of the increasingly severe global pandemic, China feels for the pain and reciprocates acts of friendship and kindness from others. In an open, transparent, and responsible manner and in accordance with the law, China has done all it can to provide all sides with support and assistance, given timely notification to the international community of the onset of a new coronavirus, and shared China's experience and solutions without reservation.

The white paper said, even while under the tremendous pressure of coronavirus control, China has moved quickly to provide as much assistance to the international community as it can. China has provided two batches of cash support totaling US$50 million to the World Health Organization(WHO). As of May 31, China had sent 29 medical expert teams to 27 countries, and offered assistance to 150 countries and 4 international organizations. It has instructed its medical teams stationed in 56 countries to support the local fight. Local government, enterprises, non-governmental organizations and individuals in China have donated materials to more than 150 countries and regions, and international organizations through various channels. China will provide more material, technological and personnel support to their developing counterparts, especially those in Africa to help improving their capacity and performance in epidemic prevention and control.

Just as the white paper pointed out, the common enemy of humanity is this virus, not any particular country. However, certain countries are going against historical trends. To disguise their inadequate response to COVID-19, they insanely smeared and slandered China. In response to such scapegoating practice, China will certainly fight back. China has suffered tremendously but has contributed generously to the global efforts to combat the virus. Its efforts should be duly recognized, and it should not be criticized groundlessly. China calls on the international community to come together, abandon prejudice and arrogance, resist scapegoating, and stand against stigmatization and politicization of the virus. In the face of such a pandemic, the world's most powerful weapon is cooperation and the right way to fight the virus is solidarity.

In the course of the fight against the COVID-19, China and Seychelles worked together in solidarity with each other, fully reflecting the deep friendship between the two countries and their peoples. We are deeply grateful to the government and people of Seychelles for their invaluable support to China at its difficult time. Throughout Seychelles' fight against the pandemic, China has always been standing alongside his good friend Seychelles with firm support. As of now, Chinese Government, Chinese Embassy in Seychelles and Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation have provided different batches of important medical supplies in a humanitarian spirit. Besides the medical supplies, China has also been sharing its experience on combating COVID-19 to the Department of Health of Seychelles. All the assistance aforementioned to Seychelles also demonstrates well China's firm support to the global fight against the pandemic and its determination to make contributions to global public health security with a vision of a global community of shared future.

Now, when the coronavirus is still spreading and causing devastation all over the world, the international community will have to face even greater difficulties and challenges. China will continue to put into action the measures put forward by President Xi Jinping at the opening of the 73rd World Health Assembly, including US$2 billion of international aid over two years, the COVID-19 vaccine to be used as a global public product once it is developed and deployed in China, and the implementation of the Debt Service Suspension Initiative for the poorest countries together with other G20 members, etc, so as to contribute more to securing regional and international public health.

Just as the white paper said, the sun will always shine again after a storm. As long as we can cherish hopes and dreams and can unite in pursuit of a common goal, we will be able to overcome all our current difficulties and challenges, and build a better world for all.
