On the evening of August 2, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, disregarded China's serious representations and strong opposition, and insisted on visiting Taiwan region, marking an escalation in the collusion between the US and Taiwan. Seychelles Association for Peaceful Reunification of China firmly opposes, strongly condemns, strongly protests, and solemnly declares as follows:
Pelosi's move seriously violated the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, violated the basic norms of international relations, and seriously damaged the political foundation of China-US relations. This is a major political provocation to China, sending a wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and further escalating tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This has been clearly recognized by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 adopted in 1971. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, 181 countries have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle. The one-China principle is the general consensus of the international community and a basic norm in international relations.
The United States has made solemn commitments to China on the Taiwan issue, but in its actions, it has continued to enhance the substantive relationship and official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, indulge the separatist forces that support "Taiwan independence", and engage in "use Taiwan to control China", which seriously damages the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait. The move breaks the serious political commitment the US has made to China. The Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party authorities have repeatedly "relied on the United States to seek independence", refused to recognize the "1992 Consensus", carried out "de-sinicization", and promoted "incremental independence". The US side is trying to "use Taiwan to control China", constantly distorting and hollowing out the one-China principle, strengthening official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and supporting the "Taiwan independence" separatist activities. This is a very dangerous act of playing with fire, and those who play with fire will perish by it.
The position of the Chinese government and Chinese people on the Taiwan issue has always been consistent. It is the firm commitment of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people to resolutely safeguarding state sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is the common aspiration and sacred responsibility of all Chinese sons and daughters to realize the complete reunification of the motherland. The will of the people is not to be defied, and the trend of the times cannot be reversed. No country, no forces, no individual should ever misestimate the firm resolve , strong will and great capability of the Chinese government and people to defend state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to achieve national reunification and rejuvenation.
The Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and China has no room for compromise. The "Anti-Secession Law" clearly stipulates major issues such as adhering to the one-China principle, curbing "Taiwan independence" secession, and opposing external forces' interference in the Taiwan issue. Any attempt to obstruct China's complete reunification and state rejuvenation is doomed to failure.
Seychelles Association for Peaceful Reunification of China and all overseas Chinese in Seychelles solemnly call on the United States to stop playing "the Taiwan card" to "contain China with Taiwan", stop interfering in Taiwan affairs and interfere in China's internal affairs, and stop supporting and conniving at "Taiwan independence" in various forms. The US side must abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiques with practical actions, earnestly implement the "Five noes" commitment made by the US leader, and do not go further and further down the wrong and dangerous path.
Seychelles Association for Peaceful Reunification of China and all overseas Chinese in Seychelles firmly support the relevant solemn representations and strong opposition made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Ministry of National Defense and other departments to the United States, and resolutely Support the Chinese government to take all necessary measures to resolutely defend state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
